While playing Dragon Age: Origins today, I was overcome with revulsion as the game's terrible graphics, ghastly art direction, and tedious, clunky gameplay impressed themselves unmercifully upon my fevered brain. Enraged, I ejected the disc and flung it from an open window. So far the holiday 2009 lineup has been extremely underwhelming. It made me realise again just how good the Gears of war franchise is - everything about it - the graphics, the design, and the gameplay are pitch perfect. I spent the rest of the evening replaying the campaigns of both gears one and 2, and found myself completely immersed in its ruined world of shattered pavement and drifting smoke as well as totally engaged by the tactically involved gameplay.
